we haven't had a video in a long time...
Jan. 16th, 2009 08:07 amOur old camera died, sort of. The screen that allows you to see what you're taking a picture of is dead, but it still takes pictures and video okay, so I just pointed it in Dillo's general direction.
The story I am trying to get him to tell is a little schtick he has developed that goes like this: "I broke my arm, and cried, and cried, and cried, and cried. Then I went to the doctor and got some candy." He made this whole story up on his own. Obviously he wasn't wholly willing to perform for the camera. At the end you get a little bit of his goofy "blah blah blah" schitck.
Although he remains somewhat unintelligible to those not accustomed to conversing with 2 year olds, he actually speaks pretty good English at this point. Mostly complete sentences, mostly grammatically correct. He gets lost and tangled if he tries to make long sentences or tell a story or express a complex idea, but for short factual declaratives he's there.
Yesterday was a grueling day, mostly because the night before was grueling (kids don't sleep well on mats on the floor in a new empty house, surprise!) and because Casper turns out to be the kind of child who will poke the kid in the next seat every two minutes for SEVERAL HOURS. Dear Lord I wanted to slap her several times, and mr. flea turned to me at one point and said, "Let's not have another."
Accomplishments of the day included getting Casper into Chase Street school - by luck and the skin of our teeth. There was so much demand that they decided to open up an additional kindergarten at Chase last week, and we got in. We almost were doomed to the bad school way the hell on the other side of town.
Also, we bought a couch and a chair. I am not sure about them; it was a long long day, and by the end of it my faculties were impaired. We'll see how it all works out when they show up in GA.
So we don't have a negative post, here's His Cuteness:

Dillo update
May. 29th, 2007 03:33 pmSeventh tooth is through - a lower incisor (right). He's not biting me per se when nursing, but the big old front teeth and poor latch mean some discomfort for me, weirdly only on the one side (my right). I have about six weeks (give or take) less to pump for him and I am SO ready to stop pumping. I think I've been more impatient with the pumping this time around; it just gets so OLD. Note to self: next time at grocery store, buy baby sippy cup so we can start teaching Dillo how to drink. And we *just* threw away the last of the Casper sippy cups. Sigh.
He's old enough that I begin to see the brain-wheels turning now. He understands "no," not that he obeys it necessarily. Will crawl to me if asked to. Responds when asked if he wants food, or more food. (I do the sign language things for these, because they are all I can remember, really.) He just seems like he is attentive to what is going on and wants to be involved in a new way. Happiest participating by riding on my hip. I have been looking at Ergo carriers on ebay since he is too heavy for the Bjorn but the sling doesn't really give me two free hands with him. $$, though, and this is probably a short phase.
Video from this weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmmsjP1rlDk When he puts his head to the side towards the end he reminds me of a photo we have of Casper at about this age.

I got my hair cut this week, but somehow it was less like Mom Hair when it was longer and unruly. Sigh.: http://www.flickr.com/photos/casperflea/268121797/
