Easter dinner we sat down 14. The menu:

glazed ham with pineapple (very sweet)
mashed potatoes and gravy (sadly I think an electric mixer was implicated in the potatoes, and the gravy came from a jar)
sweet potato casserole
green bean casserole with fried onions on top
zucchini casserole (there is some seriously weird shit in this one, but it's okay to actually eat if you don't think about it)
rhubarb surprise (which involves rhubarb, sugar, bread, sugar, butter, and sugar, and is very good, if diabetic-coma inducing)
devilled eggs
dinner rolls (store-bought)
orange bread (homemade)
zucchini bread (homemade)
applesauce (homemade)
cranberry jelly from a can

No jello mold this year!

Everything was good, in its way, but I like a lot more savory in my meals, and vegetables that are casserole-free. The one time we hosted Easter (for 4) we did a pork loin roasted over apples, mashed potatoes, and fresh steamed green beans.

I always forget how entirely Not Like Me other people can be, and there's no better way to be reminded of it than to visit my in-laws in Ohio.

For example, yesterday the children (ages 3 and 7) ate:
breakfast: Lucky charms and milk
[a fair amount of candy from the town easter egg hunt; more than I wanted; less than they wanted]
lunch: peanut butter and jelly on white bread. Neither of them ate the crusts. The 3 year old also had about half of one of those applesauces in a single-serving pack and a few sips of milk.
dinner: pizza crust with provolone cheese on it, and ginger ale. (They don't like pizza sauce, so they got a cheese only pizza).

Notice the complete lack of dietary fiber, vegetables, etc. Good thing they take vitamins. And I berate myself for the way we eat (not enough vegetables, too much prepackaged food)!

While I was waiting for dinner and dying of starvation (while watching the kids outside) mr. flea went to get me a snack. He managed cheese and crackers - saltines and pre-wrapped American cheese food slices. There's no fruit in the house.

Having yet another big thunderstorm. I should go check on Casper.
