foodways 2: casserole boogaloo
Apr. 16th, 2006 03:13 pmEaster dinner we sat down 14. The menu:
glazed ham with pineapple (very sweet)
mashed potatoes and gravy (sadly I think an electric mixer was implicated in the potatoes, and the gravy came from a jar)
sweet potato casserole
green bean casserole with fried onions on top
zucchini casserole (there is some seriously weird shit in this one, but it's okay to actually eat if you don't think about it)
rhubarb surprise (which involves rhubarb, sugar, bread, sugar, butter, and sugar, and is very good, if diabetic-coma inducing)
devilled eggs
dinner rolls (store-bought)
orange bread (homemade)
zucchini bread (homemade)
applesauce (homemade)
cranberry jelly from a can
No jello mold this year!
Everything was good, in its way, but I like a lot more savory in my meals, and vegetables that are casserole-free. The one time we hosted Easter (for 4) we did a pork loin roasted over apples, mashed potatoes, and fresh steamed green beans.

Date: 2006-04-17 01:23 am (UTC)Today the Imperious Parent and her husband and I drove down to the Cape (Red Sox winning on radio) and cooked a pork loin and new potatoes and beets and steamed snap peas. Excellent!
And then we had tea and threw jelly beans at the frosting on the lemon cake (yay!) and then ate the whole shebang.
