Yesterday I couldn't believe I had to back to work on Monday. Today I'm glad; the kids are wearing me out. I watched a movie yesterday afternoon when I could have had a nap (Persuasion) and am paying for it today.

It remains disheartening when the Dillo nurses and then immediately spits up voluminously. It's an irrational disheartenment: he isn't unhappy, he gets plenty to eat, and I make plenty of milk, but it still makes me feel bad.

He is mad to sit up right now, although he can't really do it yet. When put down on his back, he arches and tries to sit up. Ditto in his bouncy chair; if he's not strapped in he now ends up slouching out of the seat. He must have abs of steel. He sits well, supported, but slouches or flops to the side pretty fast unsupported, even if propped with pillows. Of course, all these tummy crunches result in lots of spitting up.

His talking is so vehement and conversational that it makes me think of all the Funny Videos where people have trained their dogs (and occasionally cats) to approximate things like, "I love you" and "mama." The Dillo sounds exactly like that (when he's not shrieking.)

I'm working hard to put him down in his crib and keep him there all night, and mostly succeeding at the former and not at the latter. When he gets overtired and won't go to sleep the sure thing to do is lie him on his back on our bed, crouch over him, give him the paci and shower kisses on his cheeks above the paci. This makes him sleep. He's doing better with 2 long naps, am and pm. However, Casper is impossible - she will walk into our bedroom and wake him up, although she knows she's not supposed to go in when the door is closed. I really want to duct-tape her to the wall sometimes. And the house is small enough and non-sound proof, so any attempt to remonstrate with her ends up waking the baby anyway.

And ain't he some cunnin', as the cleaning woman (Nettie) my mother hired when I was 6 used to say of my infant brother. His cheeks and legs keep getting fatter and fatter. http://www.flickr.com/photos/casperflea/235181064/

He remains the Spit-up King of Durham NC - just gave out two little gouts almost an hour after we finished nursing. But he's fat and doesn't seem uncomfortable, so I guess it's the not-so-bad reflux. We just do a lot of laundry, between that and the peeing of the Casper.

Went to work this AM and it was fine; got my office half unpacked already. Came home and topped Dillo off after he'd just had 2 oz from a bottle and he proceeded to take a 3.5 hour nap. No trouble getting my 2 hours of work at home done today!

I am a little worried about the pumping. I haven't been getting a lot, and there's not a great time to squeeze another pumping session into the day since he nurses pretty often. Partly I think it is just getting used to the pump again (ah, my old squeaky friend) and partly I have been successful in reducing my oversupply so need to work a little to build up a *small* oversupply, because it's so much easier and faster to pump when you have Too Much Milk.

Hair: tends to stick up, tufty.
Grandma's nickname: Peter the Eater.
My worries: grumbles after eating, gassiness, foremilk/hindmilk imbalance?, my complete inability to get him to burp, my ditto sleep.
Casper's opinion: he's a darling boy.

With PICTURES! http://www.flickr.com/photos/casperflea/199691478/ and following.

Hard-day-itis is sponsored today by the amazing adventures of Nocturnal Boy (whose perils are obvious), the daytime adventures of Spit-Up Boy (who causes breastfeeding mothers everywhere to feel guilty about their abundant supply and poor burping skills), and Casper, who said to me as I was trying to get her to sleep at 9:30 last night, "Mom, you're wasting my time."

I am under orders from mr. flea to go out for a walk. Possibly to purchase cute Zutano fleece hat with ears: http://www.oliebollen.com/detail.aspx?ID=989&cc=go (given it's 90+ degrees, especially funny.)
