It is my impression that the empire waist is meant to lie below the bustline. Therefore, should you find yourself wearing an empire-waisted garment, and find that the line lies across or above your bust, please choose either a larger size or another style. Thank you.

Also, I think the madras patchwork plaid shorts PLUS a polo, collar up, with a whale on it, is perhaps working the preppy revival a bit too hard, don't you?

No, no, these are students (two different ones, natch) in the library. The empire waist was on a sort of t-shirt with a crossover neckline, which would have been flattering on a woman built less like the figurehead on a ship.

Sadly, as you do not have cable, you may have no idea what this show is. Suffice it to say that they are not nearly as funny as you when they are ripping on a clueless person's wardrobe.

(Also, added benefit: that clueless person has to go shopping, and you get to help, and it costs you and clueless person nothing.)
