from an email from mr. flea to his sister:

Casper really enjoys the zoo animal set that R. picked out for her.
She makes us keep the animals corralled up, if she sees that they
aren't she points to the animals and says "uh-oh!" until we corral them
up again. We can tell that she likes the variety of having new toys to
play with and books to read.

The clothing is such a big help for us. You can't even imagine. You
are handing down so many cute outfits. It makes it easy when I dress
her in the mornings.

It is such a joy having Casper in our lives I can't even begin to tell
you. She is such a darling, we adore her. She is learning new words
every day and developing into quite the little person. She is really
getting into things and scribbling with the washable crayons that she
got for Christmas. She gives hugs and kisses to Mommy and Daddy now
which we love receiving.

In other news, I realized yesterday, out of the blue and apropos of nothing, that the Alsatian dogs frequently mentioned in the British books of my childhood are probably German Shepherds. Alsace. Huh.

In other other news, first day of classes. Prepare for the inevitable chaos. Also note we are nearly six months post the installation of the new computer system, and still do not have a way to auto-print spine labels. They have to be done by hand. So they haven't been doing them, except for Rush items. So we haven't received any of the books that are cataloged and ready to go on the shelf. For SIX MONTHS. The auto-print software has been coming "in two weeks" for 3 months now. Yesterday, at a meeting, we were told it is almost ready, and will certainly be ready in - two weeks.
