fleaThe weekend was a wonderful escape. Mary should open her house as a B&B; I know I'd pay for the privilege of the view of water and sky, the humid quiet. Of course, more than half the pleasure was the company, and I know Mary worked hard to make us welcome (and fed). How often do you visit people who aren't family, and yet feel comfortable handing over your baby and taking a nap? I don't even feel comfortable doing that with mr. flea's family - too worried she'll fuss - but I did it twice with Becky and Lyn and Mary. Casper fell asleep on Mary's lap in the hammock, even.
I wish we all lived closer. Like, on the same street.
Casper has gotten very good at walking - she's passed the tipping point and now is walking more often than falling down. I took a little video with our camera last night and I really should have been taking more all along. She was wearing two hats - she loves hats. And hugging toilet paper.
Casper has been very attached to me for the past month or 6 weeks now. She's perfectly happy if I'm not there, but if I am there, she wants to be with me. Sometimes she cries when I go into another room. She follows me around the house. She has independent moments, but she's been very attached to me, and not to mr. flea, for example. (Which makes mr. flea so sad!) I don't know how I feel about it - sometimes it touches me very deeply and sometimes it makes me feel smothered. She wants the mummy.
We've been very bad at using our sign language, but we do pretty consistently do more, food, and milk (for nursing). Casper does the food sign when I suggest dinner (stuffs her hand in her mouth) but never does the milk sign. Instead, when she wants to nurse, she climbs on my lap and tries to climb into my shirt. Amuses me to no end.

Date: 2004-10-05 08:14 pm (UTC)The Blue-Eyed Boy was like that until he weaned; then the switch got flipped and all he wanted was daddy, daddy, daddy. Now he'll accept either of us in the middle of the night, but for a long time he was Not Happy if I showed up.
Of course, I don't know whether Casper will do the same, I merely offer this as an example of the way their parental preferences can change.
