flea1. I almost never accomplish anything after 3pm on Fridays. Which makes this an excellent time for writing 25 random things.
2. I like peas a lot. I eat frozen ones as a snack and grow shell peas in the garden, which we tend to scarf up raw.
3. My kids both like peas, too. Thank god I am raising them right in one area.
4. I had been to England, France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Israel, and Jordan before I ever went west of Cincinnati OH (my birthplace).
5. I haven't been out of the US since 2002. I miss traveling.
6. I spent two academic years - one in college, and one in grad school - living in Athens, Greece.
7. It never occurred to me that one day I would be living in Athens, GA.
8. I met my husband in the library at the University of Cincinnati. My first impression of him was to assume he was a German grad student.
9. I have given birth twice without medication, and the adrenaline high afterwards was almost enough to make me consider taking up exercising.
10. After my daughter was born, for about an hour she was wide-eyed and wise-eyed. It was amazing.
11. My son was born really fast, and resembled Winston Churchill, and didn't open his eyes for about 36 hours.
12. Parenting is the hardest thing I have ever done.
13. I have never smoked, and in fact do not know how to inhale.
14. I have a tattoo of a trowel on my right shoulder. Three friends and I got the same tattoo our last week of college. When we showed our major advisor he thought we were joking, and then he was kind of appalled I think.
15. I decided more than 5 years ago that I would never again buy uncomfortable shoes. As a result, almost all of my shoes are Dansko clogs.
16. I wore only men's jeans (Levi's 501s, 32w 34l) from high school until a couple of years ago.
17. I once counted and found I had lived in 13 different domiciles in 5 states by the time I was 18. The longest I have ever lived anywhere is 5 years. Despite this, I am slow to adapt to change.
18. I can't remember any interactions between my parents before they separated when I was 8.
19. I could draw you a pretty accurate floor plan, from memory, of every place I have lived since I was 6.
20. I lived in rural Maine for 4 years, from ages 6-10, and that's what I think of when people ask me where I grew up. That's the place I feel like I was a kid. In generally answer "Where are you from?" with "New England," though.
21. The place I feel I belong most in the world is Woods Hole, MA.
22. I love the ocean, and given the choice would live within walking distance of it.
23. I still miss being an archaeologist sometimes, although it's been 7 years since I left my PhD.
24. I think some of the reason I like gardening is also a reason I liked archaeology: I like dirt, and getting dirty.
