Today the Dillo is 17 months old!
New words: dog, duck, up, hat, hot. This week he's been pointing at things and giving us long sentences that unfortunately do not contain any intelligible words. It's very cute. Words perhaps coming more soon.
The Week of Many Bonks may have ended; maybe we won't have to get him a baby bicycle helmet for Christmas to protect his head. He has a tendency to go very fast and get ahead of himself; that was what caused the big split eyebrow on Friday.
He's a much less picky eater than Casper was at this age, but he doesn't like what were many of her favorite foods (feta cheese, olives, black beans). In general, doesn't like beans. Loves meat of any kind, celery, any kind of fruit.
He has been less obsessed with books of late. Before bedtime instead of books, he and mr. flea now play in his room quietly, usually with the Fisher Price barn. They feed the animals (which are actually mostly zoo animals) with a tiny bottle that came from somewhere, then put them to sleep in the barn. He loves balls and anything wheeled still. I was able to get him to stack Primo blocks (super-early Lego) this weekend. He really likes to sit and play with an adult right now.
He's still in a bad phase of sleeping. He goes down around 7:30, and is often up 3 times, nursing each time as that's the easiest way to get him back down, before being up for the day (which can be anywhere between 5 and 7, most usually 6:30). He's had a runny nose for 10 days now and I kind of expect it to continue for months on end. Nights with only 2 wakeups do happen - the last two nights have been like this - and I LOVE them. I had always planned to night-wean him at 18 months and then move him into a shared bed with Casper (who sleeps like a log through his crying now). I'm not sure what I'll do as 18 months is approaching. I think he could stand to be night-weaned now if we could stand it, but looking back at when we did it with Casper it didn't actually reduce night-waking much. I do think Dillo is a better sleeper than Casper, though - a lot of his current night-waking is habit. Unfortunately we don't currently have Casper in a double bed - she's in a single Areobed right now. So if I want to put them in together that means buying another bed, never mind broaching the sanctity of Casper's room. Maybe try ti nogth-wean over the holidays, and save bed-sharing for later.
