Born late Tuesday night, Edward, to be called Ned, to my old friend Catherine and her husband Tom. They have six year old identical twins, Sophie and Yelena. Ned at 9lb 2oz came close to the combined weight of the twins (both about 5lb 6oz - she went to term, but she's a small woman). Another mother of identical twins told me that she'd heard that only 15% of people who have twins first go on to have other children, so I count Cat and Tom brave. Also, it was in a conversation about baby names with us that they fixed on Sophie (Yelena is named for a Polish friend of theirs - they met in Poland), and I jokingly told Cat that she should name this baby Edward called Ned because that was what I wanted for the Dillo, but mr. flea didn't like it - and she replied that Edward was her top choice! So we are clearly in harmonic convergence on the baby names.

An administrator at the day care had her first child, a daughter named Jade Elizabeth, a couple of weeks ago. The neighbors had their son overnight Sunday, but we haven't stopped by to get the deets and his name yet.

His name isn't Nedward. ::pouts::

(And don't even get me started on Teds that aren't Theodores.)

The only Ted I know is Thomas Edward. He's 2. All the Theodores I know are Theos. (Was Ted Williams a Theodore?)

I was about to say how much I like Edward-known-as-Ned, and then you reminded me that you'd liked it too. I did *try* to lobby for it for the Dil, but his actual name turns out to fit him so well.

I know one other Ned locally (which I gather this one may not be? with the old friend thing), and one Teddy, who's a Theodore.

I think I was a nix-voter on Ned, in part because of my memory of a line from The Nutty Professor: "It's Neddy the Nut, flying his old Model T."

Of course, in those last frantic weeks, I was also suggesting Erasmus and Ambrose as middle names. I am told I was not entirely helpful on that front.

This Ned is in Boston, though there's a Ned of about 6 in our neighborhood.

Oh I love the name 'Ned'!!! I wonder if my brother & SiL (expecting a boy at the end of next month) thought of it. They were kind of stuck for boys names that they both liked. The front runner now is Evan Matthew (Matthew after my brother). But they don't seem completely wedded to it. My brother woke up from a dream yelling their first daughter's name (Anna) so it's been hard to top that for knowing the baby's name would be just right.

I'm going to have to mention Ned to them.
