1. Go to Cape Cod the week of August 27, causing Casper to miss the first day of school (school schedule that week is 9-12 Monday and Tuesday, 9-3:30 Friday; WTF?)

2. Go to Cape Code a later week in Sept. (i.e. Sept. 8), causing Casper to miss the 2nd real week of school.

3. Go to Boston earlier in the summer, go on a day trip to the beach, and look longingly southward towards the Cape Cod house, which is rented out to someone.

4. Stay here all summer, maybe with my mother visiting. She has even offered to try to rent a house on the Outer Banks for a week and we could all go out there, but this strikes me as overkill. Plus it's hot and icky down here.

I dunno. I really want to go to the Cape, but feel like I'd be a Bad Parent if Casper misses school. Stupid renter!

It's public school pre-K - she turns 4 on Aug. 28. She'll be in a class with 10 4 year olds and 10 5 year olds - all of the 5s carrying over from the previous year.

Since it's pre-K, I seriously wouldn't let the school schedule interfere with my family's vacation plans. Go to the Cape when you want to go to the Cape. Casper will adjust just fine. And you're not doing anything wrong. We have people around here who are taking their first and second (and fifth) graders out of school for a week, for a vacation. We don't do that, but let yourself enjoy the freedom of having little ones while she's still not in school-that-counts school.

(Personally, I'd pick the later week on the Cape, just because it will be so much less crowded. The Cape is wonderful after Labor Day.)
