six month birthday

fleaThe Dillo is six months old today. Such a big boy! I can hardly believe it.
Still no teeth, but I've been giving him some food most evenings when we have dinner. He's quite fond of rice cereal at this point, and has had applesauce, and last night, avocado. He was decidedly unsure about the avocado. He eats about a tablespoon. I'm sending 3 bottles (12 oz) of milk with him to day care, and can pretty much keep up with the pumping for now. (I was worried he'd want 4 bottles, but not so far.)
I am (again) working on getting him to sleep in the crib. When he'll go down there, it's a much better night for everyone, but he won't always go. We've been doing better on sleep this week - back to his normal pattern of giving me 1 4-hour stretch (one night this week it was 5!!). He's been waking up at a more reasonable hour (like, 6:30 instead of 4:30) in the mornings, as a rule, as well. His napping is irregular for them at day care, which surprises me, since he's pretty easy to get on a schedule I'd say, but I guess whatever works for them. Sometimes he comes home clearly quite tired, though. Maybe it's stimulating there?
He has reached the developmental stage when the paper subscription cards from inside the New Yorker are the best thing ever. He can crumple and chew them joyfully, but isn't yet accomplished enough to actually ingest them (when he hits that stage we'll have to find him a new love.) He's pretty rolly on the floor, but still gets annoyed when stuck on his front. I am always torn between leaving him to whine and scrabble, as that will promote crawling, or rescuing him.
He won't have his checkup and shots until the 23rd, so I'm not sure how big he is. He's wearing Carter's 9 month size right now, although of course a lot of the clothes he wears regularly are bigger or smaller than that. Size 3 diapers. Today I'm going to attempt to take the bus home with him and Casper and all of our stuff. The biggest hassle is the breast pump. We'll see how it goes.
