Just had a meeting to discuss prototyping a library blog, tentatively titled "Library Hacks." The idea is a mix of tips about our library, funny library-related stuff from the internet as a whole (Ms. Dewey, "the internet is a drunk librarian," and ultimately to expand into things like taking questions and answering them (to start, anonymize questions that come to the Reference desk), and maybe attracting a student willing to blog the research process for a senior thesis or something (for pay, and resume clips.) Maybe have one librarian take on an amusing persona like Ms. Mentor or Miss Snark.
I hope we can get it approved. We're going to make a functioning sample before sending it to the Humorless Powers That Be, in hopes that this will deflect suggestions like, "couldn't it be more in-depth research help?" "shouldn't it be more branded with the Loovinversity mascot?" and "what will the donors think?" This isn't for the donors - it's for smart, geeky, snarky undergrads and those of us who love them.
In other Fun Day news, mr. flea is bringing the Dillo in so we can have lunch (it's his birthday, and coincidentally the nanny called in sick)!
Ideas for Library Hacks welcomly solicited, from professionals in the field as well as the rest of youse.
