Casper's sleepover
Mar. 22nd, 2009 06:16 pmCasper: I always draw people smiling. That's the first thing about me.
Me: Why do you always draw people smiling?
Casper: Because whenever I start to draw something, I think about love.
I was away from Casper - or she from me - for 24 hours. She left for her sleepover last night at 5pm and came home after I left for work today, but we met up for dinner. That's the longest time I've ever gone without seeing her, and only the second night we haven't slept under the same roof (the first being the night of the day Dillo was born). She had fun, and when asked one thing Penny's family does that's different from ours, said they wash their faces in the morning. She went to the Unitarian Church with them and they read a story about a treasure and finding it and it sounded just fine. And she didn't lose her tooth (though the new tooth is actually well in, but behind the old, so the old may hang on a good long while).
Penny, the sleepover girl, is probably Casper's best friend. Penny's birthday is in November, so she doesn't go to Casper's school yet, but she will be in K next year. Aside from two months in age they are very similar in some ways and get along wonderfully - didn't want to separate when it was time for Casper to go home. They look rather alike - same size, same blonde longish bob. Penny is a bit more reserved and serious than Casper I think - and has a preternatural maturity that actually reminds myself of me as a child (much more than Casper reminds myself of me - although we still *look* strikingly similar. I was a much weirder kid than Casper is, I think.) Penny's parents are a bit different from us - only in their late 20s, which makes me feel old, although really they are not unlike us 8 years ago if we'd had 2 kids 8 years ago - grad school lifestyle, though they are rather more crunchy-granola than we ever were.
I'm really glad Casper has a friend she clicks with so well. And rather amused that my childhood best friend was named Penny, too.
