on giving birth

It reminds me how awesome giving birth was for me. The first time was long and hard and tiring but still awesome, and the second time was fast and easy and awesome. It's really an incredible thing, and I don;t think that's just the endorphins talking 9though they do help!)

On chocolate-covered dates, a gift from a neighbor just back from Dubai: Dillo, "It's like a giant raisin!"

We've got about an inch of heavy wet snow over two days' worth of steady rain (there's a small lake in our back yard.) It's still coming down steadily, and it's not supposed to get above freezing until mid-day tomorrow, so all bets are, no school tomorrow.

The weaning has occurred. Casper was a whining mass of jealousy at the mall yesterday, and covets and appropriates Dillo's new bunny. Dillo has asked to nurse multiple times, and cried angrily at several times (including the middle of the night) but we made it through okay.

This was taken two hours ago - we've got about 5 inches of snow now, and the trees are drooping much lower. I've heard two transformers blow but our power is still on for now, despite some big flickers. Many branches are down all around our house and the neighbors have lost a big pecan tree; down the street we can see another pecan leaning on an SUV. The giant flakes are falling less steadily now - the next phase is going to be wind and a hard freeze, making the 6 inch ruts and slush in the roads freeze. The Uggaversity has already delayed opening until 12 tomorrow; I am sure the schools will do the same, or more likely close entirely.

Dillo fell asleep on the couch at 5:15. Let's hope he stays that way and we bypass night two of no nursing with sleep.
