Georgette Heyer, The Unknown Ajax. A very funny romp, and clearly the model for many many modern set-on-the-coast-among-the-smuggly-parts romances. The focus is really on the hero (Hugo), very little on the heroine (Anthea) or indeed the romance, which is relatively unusual for Heyer. The long drawn out set piece at the end involving every member of the family except Uncle Matthew, Polyphant the valet, and two members of the authorities is hiliarious.

Caroline has given birth to Naomi yesterday; Eli has a sister!
