Got bank statement today. Checking account dangerously low. It's not that we did anything exceptionally expsensive - it's just that several small-moderate things added up this month. Car repair, buying a new (used) washer when the old one died, wedding present, extra car seat for baby for use by new!nanny, college reunion, renter's insurance. Next month it'll be plane tickets to MA, car insurance, etc. So we decided not to buy a new futon mattress for when my SIL comes to visit this week, but give them the bed and us sleep on the (ancient, flat and knobbly) futon.

I get paid every 2 weeks and half my paycheck pays new!nanny. mr. flea gets paid monthly and half his paycheck pays the rent. We live on the rest. We live fine - but I get tired of feeling poor. Even though I know we're not, really. Just, poorer than our peer/aspirational group. Poorer than the neighbors. Poorer than the Joneses.

Well, did Quicken, discovered where money went, feeling a little better.

Also, after receiving sad little bank statement, what did we do? Why, go out to lunch and buy things, of course! (Giant common cols virus in plush for The Fussa, used very practical and cheap work clothes for me, so, not breaking the bank, but still. Love the fact that instinctual reaction to notice of poverty is, spend!)

The musical I was in at age 9, Machias, ME, was Lady in the Dark, a Moss Hart/Ira Gershwin/Kurt Weill construction of 1941! Huh. Machias, ME, 1981? Well, I guess D. R. the director was a New England Jewish elite-trained intellectual who just happened to escape to rural ME, so he musta chose it. "Jenny made her mind up, when she was three/she would light the candles on the Christmas tree/ Christmas Eve she lighted candles, threw the tapers away/Little Jenny was an orphan on Christmas Day."

Casper's two front teeth, neither yet fully emerged, are rather far apart. mr. flea is worried a little. Not that it's bad per se, but the Wife-of-Bath/Madonna look isn't his idea for his daughter's teeth I guess. I say, wait until they come in all the way, then wait for the neighbors to come in, then decide that she looks funny. Actually, since she's been basically toothless her whole life so far (the bottom teeth are tiny and hardly noticeable), just the fact that she has teeth makes her look a little funny to me.
