Good weekend. Had first facial, massage, manicure. Manicure I could live without (also the attitude of the manicurist), I've felt better after most any yoga session than after my massage, but I loved the facial. Though I don't think it actually made my skin any happier. Nice smells, nice facial massage, nice warm towels.

Spent the afternoon with mr. flea's Sudanese colleague and wife and baby, 4 months. Nice people. mr. flea gave them our Baby Bjorn, which I guess I'm okay with - Casper is really too heavy for it now (though the cheapskate hoarder in me says "no, Mine!") Mrs. Sudanese was skeptical about it at first, and Mr. Sudanese explained that there are low tribes and high tribes in the Sudan, and wearing your baby attached to you with cloth is a low tribe sort of thing. I pointed out that in America, it is a high tribe sort of thing, plus Baby Bjorn is clearly Swedish anyway. I think she came round (and it's so practical, especially since their son is fussy and wants to be held).

Sunday I gardened - planted 4 tomatoes (Sungold cherry in pot on the porch - idiot squirrels promptly dug in it; Brandywine Pink, Better Boy, and one other that's a sauce tomato called something Italian I misremember). Turned over the rest of the vegetable bed while Casper sat on her blanket and ate a little grass. Wanted to get carrots, beets, beans planted, but didn't make it. Thursday is my next shot.

Went to the open house for the house I posted here - lovely. The baby's room is white but the ceiling is a sort of cobalt blue, very nice. It works because they have 10 foot ceilings. Went home and couldn't help furiously cleaning and decluttering my house, though fully aware the frenzy was only brought on by how nice the for sale house looked. They got an offer, so let's hope it goes through.

Just spent 45 minutes talking to the boss for the job I'm pondering about where he wants it to go. Still pondering. Boy can he create verbiage.

Big Big Boss - The Looniversity Librarian - broke it to us this AM that's he's leaving to head up the Research Libraries at the NYPL. I am seething with jealousy, because those lovely lions will soon be HIS lovely lions. I love them.

Roma?

I should start some tomatoes in a pot that I can bring in on cold nights. Hmmm.

Maybe San Marino. Or Sal Mineone. Something like.

Why are we hoping someone other than you gets to buy the pretty house?

I like reading about your gardening.

I'm sad you didn't love your massage, but surprised to hear yoga is that nice...

Well, I am not buying the pretty house, and it belongs to friends of mine who want very much to sell it for a good price, and they are. (These are the same people who bought a rackety old house and are now renovating it - I posted months ago about the open house with the orange shag carpet and bathtubs in the living room. They've been carrying two mortgages for at least 5 months now, and getting stressed out!)

Oh, pshaw--if they're friends, they should sell it to you, cheap! :) OK, fine, I'll hope they sell it.

It took me a bunch of massages before I found someone that left me feeling GREAT and not just nice. Now I go back to him when I can. FYI.

Your potential boss can talk it up, can't he? I finally figured out who he was at the showcase last week, and verbiage was about all he did the whole time he was there. Oy.

I did not know about your Big Big Boss, but wow, good for him!

Some people were almost in tears this AM. There was a beat, then a loud "ohhhhh/wowwwww" when he made the announcement, then about 30 seconds of chatter, and only then did someone think of applauding. He's a pretty decent sort - does good schmoozy politics and fundraising, but at heart a humanist, and genuinely interested in good things like diversity and opportunities for support staff.

Yes, he's always struck me as a very good sort -- not that I really know him; I'm basing that on general impression, reputation, contact with him as a bookshop customer. I hope he enjoys his lions.
