Friday Five
Apr. 16th, 2004 09:06 am1. What do you do for a living?
I am a library assistant, which is sort of a cross between a secretary and a librarian, with all the glamour of neither and all the pay of nothing.
2. What do you like most about your job?
I can get it done in half a day, so I have lots of free time to play around on the internet. It's not stressful, usually. I leave it, psychically, the minute I walk out the door. It uses my skills optimally - well-organized, detail-oriented, magpie brain. I have been called a walking encyclopedia, and that's not a bad character trait for library reference work.
3. What do you like least about your job?
I'm bored a lot (see the first, above). I am not challenged at all. There's little creativity. I am low person on a big totem pole, so have little opportunity to shape events, and get a lot of institutional pushback when I try to change things.
4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____...
My boss is needy, I haven't had enough sleep, I get office politics on the brain and can't stay sufficiently detached.
5. What other career(s) are you interested in?
In an eerie echo of orthoepy, Mail Carrier. Gardener for a private estate (okay, preferably mine). Park Ranger. Sadly, still, archaeologist (if I could just do the outdoorsy and travel parts, make lots of money, have no academic politics, not have to teach, and have a self-confidence implant).
