Nov. 18th, 2005 02:12 pmIn the b.org world, I seem to have chosen an interesting 24 hours to be mostly off-line and completely self-absorbed. I always miss the kerfuffles. I suppose this is a blessing; I hate kerfuffles. Also, DX, I support you in email.
I'm about to call the Children's Campus and accept the spot for Casper, as soon as my student goes for the day so I can have some privacy. The tour was fine - I was so emotionally overwhelmed that it was hard to get more than a general impression. Casper liked the fish-tanks. They have a lot of resources and it felt like the structure was appropriate for a 2 year old. My biggest surprise/concern was how small the spaces seem - but they fit national and state standards for square footage, so I suppose it's okay. The kids were just getting up from naps/rest when we were touring, but those who were awake knew the center director by name and she them, and they all seemed happy to see her. Another thing I didn't know is that they feed the kids hot lunch and snacks. More convenience for us.
I also talked to a woman I know whose 2 year old is there now, and they have an almost identical household income to ours, and with the subsidy, they only pay about $500 a month. That would be HUGE for us, if it worked out the same for us. Paying $800 a month would be HUGE.
I had Casper and Ellen at our house this morning, though, and even though they weren't getting along I was sort of heartbroken. We'll tell the other family and the nanny Monday, I think. I think the other family will be professional about it - I plan to pitch the financial angle to them. I think the nanny will be hurt. She's a very emotional person. I plan to give them notice that we'll leave the share Jan 1., although given the holidays we'll probably have our last day of care about Dec. 20, and then pay the nanny's holiday vacation. Which I suppose is a decent way to go out - it feels as though we are being generous. I hope the last month isn't awkward.
I hope this is the right choice. We'll see.
