book read; these kids today
Sep. 29th, 2005 08:38 pmMalcolm Gladwell, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
I like Gladwell's writing a lot, and there are some really interesting ideas presented in a very acessible fashion here. It suffers from little-book-by-a-magazine-writer syndrome, and as usual I craved more depth & more hard science backup (footnotes, people! Endnotes are not as geeky!). Read too fast, too - I wanted more! But very enjoyable and thought-provoking.
****
Observed on the bus coming home this afternoon: 3 Looniversity students talking together, all young men.
A: Pink striped oxford shirt, hot pink grosgrain ribbon belt, faded navy shorts with embroidered pink martinis on them, loafers with tassels, no socks.
B: Red polo with the collat fully popped and crease lines down the front, red and navt canvas belt with brass buckle, navy shorts with lobsters embroidered on them, missed the footwear.
C: Navy and white striped polo shirt, navy cotton sweater tied around the shoulders, leather belt, Nantucket red shorts, shiny black loafers, no socks.
I refrained from asking them, "Is this a joke?," but barely.
