happy birthday to me
Sep. 6th, 2005 12:32 pmI'm 33 today. So far we had lemon cake and coffee for breakfast, opened presents, I went to the gynecologist, Casper threw up in the car on the way to the doctor for her 2 year well child check, then on me, then on the car seat. We had her looked at (just a bug probably) & weighed (28 pounds) and came home, where she asked to have a nap (sure sign of illness in this kid!) and mr. flea has gone to work. What a day! 33 feels a bit old. I am still mentally stuck being 28.
Here is a less complicated birthday in my life: Sept. 6 1974. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/casperflea/34950530) I was 2 and we were living at my grandparents' house in Woods Hole. My grandmother used to tell me that I loved the ferry, so for my birthday we all rode over to Martha's Vineyard and I spent the whole trip saying, "This is MY ferry!" My mother recounted it this way in my baby book: "We all rose early and took the ferry to Oak Bluffs, M.V. A great thrill for us all. We walked around Oak Bluffs, took a VW bus taxi to Edgartown and back and returned to Woods Hole almost 4 hours after leaving. [flea] hardly tired. Did quite well. After lunch, when [grandmother] returned with a cake I blew up balloons ad festooned the curtains with them. We lit the candles, stacked the presents on the kitchen table and brought [flea] in. She was pleased - put her hand to her face + turned away with a little embarassment. ... She opened presents, wanting to linger with each one rather than proceed. And was so intruiged by the [Fisher Price Little People] houseboat that she played with it and missed the cake."

My sister is 33! This is a reminder that I will be 30 in 3 days. Wait, whose journal is this? Never mind about me; there is more cake to be eaten!
