fleaReally good food.
I ate:
1. Cornmeal battered catfish, with a tomatoey sauce and a little mound of greens and crabmeat. Spicy.
2. Rabbit with mashed potatoes, peas, 3 kinds of heriloom beets, and pea greens.
3. Glass of Pinot Bianco.
4. Warm lemon cake with strawberries, whipped cream, a little bit of lemon curd-y sauce and powdered sugar over everything. I could have eaten 3 of them. My enthusiasm was nearly embarrassing.
5. Glenlivet, neat.
mr flea ate:
1. Sunny-side up egg over grilled asparagus, mushrooms and bacon. This was the hobbity-est dish, and the best of the food proper in both our opinions.
2. Brined port tenderloin and some kind of thing with lima beans and I think shrimp in it. The meat was so tender it was not like meat, and mr flea reported that he actually liked the lima beans.
3. Glass of Pinot Bianco.4
4. Pecan pie with ice cream.
5. Coffee.
It was great fun. It doesn't have the feel of a fancy restaurant, really, quite noisy and friendly. Our waitress was tiny and cute and nice. We should have ordered a bottle of wine and not worried about not finishing it. I should have been less annoyed by the Looniversity students who sat next to us and DIDN'T FINISH THEIR FOOD. It is hard when one is super splurging and enjoying every morsel of it to sit next to the idle rich who are so blase. Also, honey, it may be fashionable, but your outfit made you look like a tart, and the lack of a bra didn't help at all, especially on you.
Casper was an angel for Ashley, and went to sleep for her without crying (I can't remember the last time she did that for me.) We managed to not talk about her excessively during the meal. Although she was so cute yesterday in a hot pink stripey dress over purple stripey leggings because it got cold.
We'll have to do this again. We'll have to knock off a bank (actually the prices are reasonable for high-class dining - entrees in the $20s - we're not in New York after all.)
