I think Casper is having a difficult age/phase - her renewed trouble sleeping, her unusual clinginess, wanting to nurse a lot and in public (on the bus today!), her irritability with other kids at the park, new tendency to hit (she says "ow" while she hits you, and when you say "no hitting" she smacks herself on the head and says "ow") all add up to the beginning of the twos I think. We shall gird our loins and carry on.
It's definitely a phase. Frances is going through it too (funny how much the two of them are developing along the exact same schedule). One book I read (The Happiest Toddler on the Block) calls it the Little Neanderthal stage.
