Huh, Nora has been doing the "I'm stupid" thing sometimes lately as well. I'd attributed it to modelling her older brother (who inherited some perfectionist issues ::sigh::) and some anxiety about full-day school.
Nora was also the wilder toddler -- flailing, screaming tantrums -- and the only thing I found that worked was time-outs alone in her room. Mind you, I consider that successful because it kept me from smacking her, not because it made any huge change in her behaviour. I think only growing older & learning some impulse control did that.
