Am at home, furloughed from work and Casper is out of school anyway, so kept Dillo home too.

Am feeling vaguely like I should engage children in some valuable SAHM-y project, like drawing big turkeys, or ironing leaves into wax paper, or baking something.

Am actually letting the one watch TV (currently, Dora), while the other is up to her own devices in her room, coming to ask for help only when she managed to insert a small rubber lizard into the heating vent. Neither has eaten the breakfast I made for them (cinnamon toast).

Have I mentioned that we have exactly NONE of the major components of tomorrow's meal in the house? The only thing I could possibly prep is pie crust, and I suck at pie crust. We have yet to acquire a turkey, apples, stuffing, potatoes, or a vegetable. (Oh, I suppose I could cut up and roast that pumpkin. Except I don't like pumpkin pie, so am not deeply motivated.) And why can't I go shopping and remedy this situation? Because I don't drive.

Must think of something to do all day besides sitting around thinking about how much I suck.

Mother called me at 8:06 AM to discuss potatoes. I was on the bus.

This after a call at about 9:15 the previous night to solicit food ideas from me, all of which she rejected (including my plan to make blueberry pie). 10 minutes after we hang up, I get a call back from D., who exhorts me to make all the blueberry pie I want, and that he will help me eat it.

Hah! I'm in the same place. Though hopefully the turkey will be sitting on the porch by the time I get home. (Organic free-range hippie turkey being delivered by the local agriculture co-op.) The rest is all up in the air.

Personally I'd resort to baking a pan of brownies & eating the whole thing myself. But I realize that's not exactly the wisest response.

I hope the actual turkey-day goes better.

Ha, you sound so much like me! Except now that I live in the UK, it's OK to skip Thanksgiving. Relief. I always have vague ideas of putting a turkey dinner together, but somehow it never happens.

To me, Thanksgiving means stress. I would rather skip the cooking and the stress. There you have it.
