My older nephew is very distracted by scratchy clothes. I was at that age, and still am (and have to remove most labels on my clothes). It's easier these days to get things with the tag info printed on the cloth. Appliques are especially scratchy!
I think second children tend to be less quotable because they don't have the same 'dropped into an alien environment' thing that first children have, where (speaking as a first child) you're alone with these weird tall people and trying to act cool and make yourself understood in their language. Maybe why second children tend to be more laid back too.
Second nephew used to sit for hours on the mini-potty readying books or humming to himself, and would promptly poop when his pull-ups were back on. When his mother suggested he might want to use the potty for its intended purpose, he got really upset and said "But I love it!" You don't poop on something you love, you know?
