What's the last thing you ate?
A Kraft brand square caramel. I have been popping them all day.
What's your favorite cheese?
Very sharp Vermont cheddar.
What's your favorite fish?
Grilled swordfish.
What's your favorite fruit?
Wild lowbush blueberries.
When, if ever, did you start liking olives?
I liked the canned California black and bottled green as a kid; I think I probably first had experience with fancy kinds in Greece. I like Kalamatas and that sort of thing okay, but in small doses.
When, if ever, did you start liking beer?
I like it okay, but given the choice will usually pick cider.
When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish?
I am okay with shellfish and grew up on it in Maine, but generally I don't find it worth the expense. I'd rather have a steak.
What was the best thing your parent/s used to make?
My mother is a much better cook now than I remember growing up. I remember a lot of frozen vegetables, the phase of evil tofu stir-fries... she was always a good bread baker, and baker in general. My father is a stunt chef - he almost never cooks (we ate a lot of burgers and tacos before he remarried), but can make a mean beef stew or that chicken dish where a breast is wrapped around a hunk of butter.

What's your comfort food?
Tuna noodle casserole (with the can of cream of mushroom soup!)
What's your favorite type of chocolate?
Dark, but not super-dark or bitter. Smoove.
How do you like your steak?
Medium well. I like the crispy outside edges.
How do you like your burger?
Medium well, with ketchup and dill pickles.
How do you like your eggs?
Scrambled hard, lots of pepper.
How do you like your potatoes?
French fried by MacDonald's. Or baked, or mashed (ooh, mashed), or potato caked. It's hard to go wrong with potatoes if enough fat is involved as well.
How do you take your coffee?
Black, two sugars. If it's really strong or my tummy is sore, some cream.
How do you take your tea?
Black, two sugars. I drink a lot of Lady Gray, Lemon Zinger, Sleepytime, Darjeeling.
What's your favorite mug?
I am liking a red one with very flared sides my former boss brought me from ALA last summer.
What's your cookie of choice?
Chocolate chip with rolled oats in.
What's your ideal breakfast?
Bacon, scones and jam and whipped cream, pot of "special tea" (Republic of Tea Blackberry Sage.)
What's your ideal sandwich?
Grilled cheese, american on rye with a tomato in. Or a BLT on rye with avocado.
What's your ideal pizza (topping and base)?
Good dough, crisp-chewey (usually wood-fired achieves this), Italian sausage and black olive.
What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)?
Apple, or mixed berry, warm, with ice cream or whipped cream.
What's your ideal salad?
Butter lettuce, walnuts, craisins, grapes, balsamic vinaigrette.
What food do you always like to have in the fridge?
In our house, we always have yogurt (YoBaby), milk, orange cheese (Kroger brand "cheddar"), onions, and kalamata olives in the fridge.
What food do you always like to have in the freezer?
Frozen peas, spinach, oj concentrate in cans.
What food do you always like to have in the cupboard?
Canned beans (4 kinds), lentils, barley, rice (2 kinds), cous cous, canned tomatoes, canned black olives, 6 kinds of pasta, "Phoebe crackers" (= Stoned Wheat Thins), rice cakes, I could go on and on.
What spices can you not live without?
Cumin, oregano, thyme, bay leaves, cinnamon.
What sauces can you not live without?
Like, canned sauces? We buy jarred pasta sauce, Barilla.
Where do you buy most of your food?
Athens Locally Grown (=digital farmer's market), Kroger, Earth Fare for treats.
How often do you go food shopping?
Weekly. We ALL go, usually.
What's the most you've spent on a single food item?
Beef, for holidays with meat-eating elders visiting. Probably $25 (at Whole Foods).
What's the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own?
Kitchenaid ($179 refurbished).
What's the last piece of equipment you bought for your kitchen?
Extra pyrex 2-cup measure; I got tired of washing #1 mid-recipe.
What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without?
Big Calphalon aluminum-clad stockpot.
How many times a week/month do you cook from raw ingredients?
Most days of the week - I'd say 6, and the other is leftovers for all meals.

Lentil soup, last night.

Beef stew, spaghetti carbonara.
