I've been present for two kitties going under. They get an injection that makes them really fall asleep =very deeply=, and then they get another that makes their hearts stop, and both times it was undramatic and they got to be held and reassured by the people they really loved. And cats don't fear death, or really have any idea about it -- they do understand being sick and old and in pain, so we're talking relief.
