Is STUMPERS-L still around? It's a similar concept, only email, and I found it had a much higher signal-to-noise ratio, since it was usually professionals passing on a patron query that they couldn't find themselves.
(The only stumper during my 1.5 tenure on the list that I knew off the top of my head was a Ray Bradbury short story; but those librarians were total aces at chasing down rare children's works.)
Alternately, I need to introduce you to snacky, who is the absolute queen of the obscure children's book. Also, she described to me what happened in the three sequels to Flowers in the Attic one time. Okay, don't hold that against her.
