fleaChris Roberts, Heavy Words, Lightly Thrown: The Reason Behind the Rhyme (2005). US edition (with rather silly glossary, largely about football clubs) of UK book about the history of nursery rhymes and their historical referents. Witty and dashed-off, as opposed to scholarly and ponderous. (Why can't anyone write anything scholarly and witty?) Still looking for a more serious book on this topic, if you know of one.
