You might consider installing a hook and eye latch high up on the outside of his door - it would certainly keep him in the room. Casper would stand banging the door and screaming, waking the entire neighborhood, if we tried, so we haven't done the same (plus, she can use a chair to get to high things AND undo latches - we are working on manners and rules, having given up on technology).
