We were just at the Kroger, and mr. flea and Casper ran into the national award winning chef in town, and his two little girls, buying a birthday cake for their wife/mother. A Kroger birthday cake! The chef acknowledged the irony. Since he has an *elite dessert professional* at his disposal.

Casper is going to do the chores to taking care of Penny for the next week - feeding, watering, and daily litter-bx - in hopes of proving that she is responsible enough to get a fish. We'll see. If we get one, it will be a beta.

Oh, also! Orlando Bloom was in the downtown Durham Marriott last light, and my former coworker found out (via Twitter!) and went down and got a photo with him (amusingly, she is not some 20 year old fangirl - she's, like, 50, and collects celebrities). He is shooting a movie in town.

not bad news

Zillow currently has our house "zestimated" at $51K more than we paid for it 9 months ago. The real estate market here is strong!

(Why yes, I just came home from a child's birthday party where real estate was discussed. Athens - just like Durham, only smaller and more incestuous!)
