first famer's market
Apr. 7th, 2007 10:10 amOkay, it was about 34 degrees and windy - very unusual!- but the farmer's maket opened for the season anyway, in the new structure, which is very nice and will make me so happy in the hot weather. We got tulips, spinach, and strawberries! Yes, already. And they are wonderful. Go Team Lyon Farms!
My FIL asked where they grow all this stuff. mr. flea said, "On their farms. That's why they call it the farmer's market." FIL is from Cleveland and couldn't believe that there is produce at this time of year. But it's mostly greens and sweet potatoes and flowers at this date, and the tomatoes are greenhouse (and not that good).
Also, this week the featured chef was a woman I know and whose cooking I love, and they're opening a casual restaurant in September: http://www.wattsgrocery.com/, yay. They had cookies for the kids and a blessedly hot egg and country ham casserole they were giving out samples of.
