Tired first - we've had a pretty bad week for sleeping on the Casper front. Last night was not atypical - She fell asleep, almost mid-sentence, which was cute, at 8:40. I went to bed in my own bed. She woke up at 10:43 in not-awake-yet-crying-loudly mode, I went to her, comforted her, we both fell asleep within about 20 minutes. I woke up at 1:17, returned to my bed. She woke up crying again at about 1:45; mr. flea went in to try to help, she got worse, he ended up bringing her into our bed and went to sleep on the couch. She took more like half an hour to 20 minutes to fully settle, and was very restless for the rest of the night. Woke me enough to check the clock by single cries in her sleep at 4:05 and 4:10. Then I was awake for the day at 6:11. Tired now. One night like this makes me tired; two in a row renders me pretty darn cranky, and 3 or more in a week and we reach zombie-dom. Like today.

The good is the progress we are making on the potty front, through no effort of ours. We bought a potty a year ago; we bought underpants 6 months ago; we bought a potty book at some point and read it off and on; but we have never really started working on potty use in any systematic way. Day care does - they change the kids at pretty regular hours and ask them if they want to sit on the potty and try, and Casper usually does. They have two cute little tiny toilets. Casper pees in the potty at least twice a day now, although she still has wet diapers most times they change her as well. At home, she's developed something of an evening pooping routine, in which she brings it to our attention that she is pooping or a poop is coming, we hustle to the toilet, and then a wait, often 15 minutes which we pass by reading books, ensues, and then we have successful pooping and peeing. Other nights she comes to us and says, "I'm pooping, I forgot" - clearly knowing that she needs to bring this to our attention before the poop happens, but she missed this time. So she's starting to potty-train herself, with the help of day care, and I guess I'm okay with that, although I feel a little guilty, like we should be doing more. We do *mean* to do more, but, well, read the previous paragraph. She's 2 and 7 months; her age-mates in class are mostly not potty trained, although a few are. So I don't yet have to worry about keeping up with the Joneses.
