I just found and xeroxed two short bits of text from arcaheological publications, in French, about Mallia. Ah, Henri van Effentere. Ah, Etudes Cretoises. I am nostalgic for the days when I spoke excellent French (I really did - my haute Parisian family told me so! - of course that was more than half my life ago now). I am nostalgic for the days of tracking down snippets of mention in archaeological publications from before WWII. I am nostalgic for Mallia itself, which I have visited at least twice. Of course, the patron I xeroxed them for seems to be interested in goddess worship on Minoan Crete, so she may be wearing a tinfoil hat (not all people who study Cretan goddesses do, but the percentage is higher than in the general population). I am not much nostalgic for academic politics and crackpottery.
Everyone else had lj interests and I didn't! So now I have some. I am not sure why, excatly, and they are what came off the top of my head this morning. I can think of lots more, now. Like turkish tulips. Which I have desired and asked for for my birthday for YEARS running now, and nobody ever gets them for me. (Also, they sell out early).
