I can't remember Saturday any more. I am pretty sure I was in a bad mood. I think we went to the pool.

Sunday we were domestic and when Casper napped I sewed most of the blue slipcover for the chair. I have only to finish up the cushion cover (and install a zipper; must first procure a zipper) and hem the skirt and it will be finished. Looks better than the muslin did, though the stress point where the muslin ripped is still stressed in this version. I managed to hit a pin with the machine needle on my last stitch, and bent it all to hell, so I have to replace the needle before going on. Somehow this has been daunting to me in my current mood, although it's actually very simply done and I think I have a spare packet of needles somewhere. The Sunday night there was a small concert in the park across the street and I got myself into a very bad mood indeed through a combination of the heat/humidity and being a social dork, unable to bring myself to talk to anyone. mr. flea successfully chatted up the people on the next blanket and found that she also has a PhD in Environmental Engineering and works reviewing projects for the National Academy of Sciences and knows many of the same people he knows. All I can think of, of course, is Can she find him a decent job?

Monday we resolved to go to the Festival for the Eno after all, as it was only mid-80s and overcast and stultifyingly humid, which is great weather for NC in July. (Sane people would hold this festival in April, or October!) Despite some heat-induced grumpiness on my part, and complete unwillingness to eat much on Casper's, a jolly time was had. We watched Victorian dancing, and a little belly-dancing (not smonster's people, though). Casper frolicked to the belly-dancing music, and attracted a follower as well. We put our feet in the river, and if we'd had a towel we'd probably have put all of Casper in the river - she was certainly game. We had to hold both her hands to prevent her from sitting or lying down in the river. She liked the water skaters. We went to see an aquarium of fishes and turtles and a pregant snake and a crayfish from the river. I was impressed that mr. flea could ID a number of the fishes. The snapping turtle ate the crawfish while we were there, whoops. We worried for the snake, who was waving her tail about temptingly, but she was still okay when we left. We ate good food from the Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill, recycled our stuff at smonster's station, saw the puppet parade ("Big bird! Boys holding it!") and left. Casper was tired on the bus ride back to the parking lot and snuggled, then napped hard as soon as we got in the car.

I made a flag cake, but with frosting stars and stripes instead of strawberries/blueberries. We are hamburgers and corn and beets.

I'm having a tired, moody week. Nothing to do at work, stress over the nanny share, Casper's been whiny/clingy/manipulative/not eating, and it's hot and steamy. "Yucky yuck," as Casper says.

I harvested the first tomato of the season last night. Cherokee Purple. Haven't eaten it yet - am letting it sit on the counter to finish ripening. I picked it a couple of days early because I was afraid the birds would get it.

I'm finally watching the Firefly DVDs veejane left when she was here. Okay, I finally watched the first episode, Serenity, which I'd seen before. We left the commentary track off. I saw maybe 5-6 of the episodes during the series run, and read discussion of all of them.

My non-spoilery comments (and, no, I'm no Nilly):
LOVE Nathan Fillion. When he's talking to Kaylee and says "I'm a mean old man" with this little twitch of the lips, my heart turns over. Or maybe it was some other anatomical reaction.

What I love about Joss isn't the myth or the plotting or anything, though those are all done just fine, it's the dialogue. People don't much talk like his characters do, but they SHOULD. Because I would like them to.
