in which I am a weirdo
Dec. 12th, 2005 03:22 pm1. I nearly friendslocked this post, and then I realized that my two year old, while quite clever, cannot yet navigate the internet or read, so I think I'm safe.
2. I'm all conflicted about Christmas presents for Casper. She's SO into Toy Story right now, which I both enjoy and support (I feel it's a good movie) and also feel guilty about (I am promoting corporate life in my kid, why don't we read a book, etc.). I've gotten her cowboy boot slippers, and I think my mother is getting her a red cowboy hat like Jessie's, or maybe one of those horse-on-a-stick toys. But I'm tempted to get her an action figure/doll from Toy Story. I think she'd love it. But I'd feel bad for the corporate merchandizing tie-in, and besides, I know that very very soon she'll be begging for all corporate merchandizing tie-ins, so why should I give in pre-emptively?
3. On the days I steel myself and say, "I'm getting her an action figure/doll; screw it" I get into a silly knot over what to get and where to get it from! The obvious one is Jessie, the girl cowboy, and really, Casper's favorite. But she's not currently in production, so is only available from various resellers, on ebay, etc. I am sure many of these are not dodgy, but somehow I get discouraged (also by their outrageous shipping charges.) Casper really likes Bullseye (the horse), too, but the same problem of availability applies. Woody and Buzz Lightyear are available from Disney, but she's not as crazy about either, and I woudln't know which one to pick, and then there's the whole Huge Corporation thing. And I haven't even gotten into the issue of plastic doll vs plush doll vs. plush doll with molded plastic features and talking vs. not talking.
4. I mentioned I'm a weirdo, right? I should just get her a book. Or nothing; we don't really need anything (except a few clothing items, including slippers, so I am safe and sane there.)
