Things I want and/or need. Note: Casper and I are both having birthdays in a month.

Casper birthday presents:
books (see wish list at Amazon under my name. special need for Make Way for Ducklings which we do not own)
play doh
little dollhouse type furniture to go with the little Calico Critters rabbit figurines MIL got her for her birthday
training pants and book about potties
playmobil
Teletubbies dvd? she loves the Teletubbies despite only having seen the show once
foreign language learning DVD? It feels a little pushy to be interested in this, but since she's soaking stuff up like a songe, why not get something that teaches her Simon Says in French? Or Spanish. That's the real dilemma - which one?

Me:
new bras
queen sized wool blanket to stop the spring and fall blanket wars that result when two adults try to share a twin blanket on a queen bed
black pants for work that are not dorky
fall work skirts
Kaffee Fasset fabric for a quilt
fake shearling coat from LL Bean?

Can you tell I had to take money out of our slush fund to cover the visa bill last night? Yes folks, it's the monthly do-the-Quicken-be-reminded-of--relative-poverty-and-desire-to-spend-money shuffle.

You can make your own play dough. That might be a fun project for both you and Casper.

3 reasons to go with Spanish for the Casper:
1) chance she'll actually get to use it in daily life -- i.e. it will actually be useful
2) spelling is dead easy -- easier than English by far, and even easier than French -- so learning Spanish spelling in addition to English not too burdensome
3) chance of finding Spanish-speaking little friends =now=.

3 cups is a lot of salt! Man! Duly printed.

Oh, Spanish is the sensible choice. Only, I speak French. And mr. flea speaks nothing, so if Casper learned French she and I could drive mr. flea nuts by talking behind his back. Which he fears and has already forbidden us to do. Mwah ha ha.

You don't remember, then? Mother made us play dough once or twice. I remember thinking, Dough! Yum! and then encountering the salt.

I think the salt is there solely to deter eaters.

It works.

Abierto! Cerrado! Abierto! Cerrado!

I picked up a lot of French in our childhood despite zero serious study. Probably, in another year, you could offer both; but right now, you would get a glop of 3 mixed languages. Which are funny, but perhaps not ultimately useful to a talking person till all the confusions are sorted out.

That's no doubt one reason. The salt also preserves it, I should think.
