hivemind question on the pill

Is it okay to go off birth control pills in the middle of a pack, or should I wait until the end of the cycle?

Because when the radio has a snippet about deaths due to a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, and my brain goes, "I'd like a cholera outbreak so I could die," I'm thinking it's time to stop the pill.

You should probably call your doctor, but if you do go off the pill mid cycle, you'll get your period much earlier. Can I ask what you are on? Have you looked into a lower hormone pill? I have had a lot of trouble finding one that doesn't make me crazy(er), but Yaz has worked well for me.

I'm sorry. A friend had a similar reaction to yaz, and it was very scary. Please, call your doctor.

Yikes! Yeah.

You can go off the pill in the middle of the cycle. It will mean that your next couple of cycles are screwed up, and you won't know when you're ovulating and when your period will come, but that sounds like it would be the lesser of two evils.

I second the "see the doctor" recommendation. But it's definitely time to do something.

eek! no useful advice from me, alas.

Yeah, when a pill was giving me migraines almost every day, I just quit taking it and dealt with the screwy cycle. A much better choice, IME.

During my ill-fated experiment with the Pill, I stopped right in the middle as soon as I realized the connection with my daily crying jags and extreme self-loathing. My mood improved within 48 hours and nothing too weird happened to my cycle.

Go off. Absolutely.

Also, of all the things to die from, cholera would be a truly sucky choice.

Yeah, I have a lot of experience with suicidal ideation, but suicidal ideation by cholera epidemic was a new one.

Go off, call your doc.

Don't worry about it and quit taking them. And expect to start bleeding in the next couple of days.

I had better luck with extremely-low-dose pills. Mind you, I still hated them enough that I had my tubes tied when the baby was born.

Joining the chorus of "quit now."

No cholera, please!

Yeah, when I was on my first one and thinking of driving off the road, the doc had told me "dont' go off without talking to us first" and I was like "Um, OK" and made an emergency after hours appointment with the most useless doc ever (not mine) who was like "Um....so...do you think you're going ot hurt yourself right now? Uh....I don't get what you want me to do? Do you want me to check you into the ER?" and I"m like "NO, I just want you tell me if I should stop taking these RIGHT NOW, and I want you to MAKE IT ALL BETTER!" and he's like "Um, sure, stop taking them".

So, yeah, STOP TAKING THEM.

But use backup birth control, clearly.
