100% shit-free parents

Because Dillo just scared the shit out of us, by freaking out at being put in his highchair, stopping breathing and turning blue. Since there was some frozen corn on the tray we were briefly concerned he was choking, but there wasn't really time for him to have picked any up.

It sounds like a breath holding spell (http://www.drgreene.com/21_557.html) and I sure hope this does not become a habit. Even when I can tell myself that if he passes out cold he'll automatically start breathing, and even if he has a seizure it's fine, I do not have any actual desire to see my son pass out or have a seizure. To the anemia test, away!

Having looked up night terrors also (it's a fine day with Doctor Google) I was interested to see that they tend to follow a fever in children and/or occur when the child is overtired - both of which were the case with Casper last night.

Did you ever see Brother C. in a night terror? He had them often, but I think mostly after the time you weren't in the household. His habit was to wander the 2nd floor, mumbling unconsolably to himself, till someone led him back to his bed. (He never screamed or kicked out, that I know of.)

Dear Cutieheads,

Stop trying to kill you parents by overstressing them. Please.

Dear Flea,

I am so, so, so sorry. Ugh.

I'm so sorry. Both the night terrors and the breath holding must be terribly scary as a parent. I hope the rest of your week is calm and low stress.

Holy moley, you guys need a break.

Emmett had at least three choking episodes and they were all heart-stopping.

Dillo! Don't turn blue!

My mom did the breath-holding thing as a child. I can't imagine how scary that would be as a parent. In her case, she eventually grew out of it - so reassuring, right?

Nick used to do the turn-blue thing all the time--complete with convulsions--from about 6 weeks old until about 2 or 2.5 years. It scared the crap out of me. The doctor told me to turn around and walk away and he'd learn to stop on his own. I never could, but I did learn to blow hard in his mouth, one short, sharp whoof! as soon as it started, and that would start him breathing again and then he'd just scream. Yay? I hope the dillo learns NOT to do that more quickly than Nick did.

My little brother did that. Once. I hope this is the once for you guys.
