I've still got it

Phew. Aced the GREs, at least, as far as I know, with the essay section as yet ungraded. I felt a little that I was missing the point I was supposed to be making in the essays, but hope he poor schlubs who have to grade them are s stunned by my command of spelling and grammar and general ability to write coherent sentences that they won't worry about that too much. On the math section I struggled and bewailed the fact that the ONLY time I have used many of these concepts since, oh, 10th grade has been in stupid standardized tests. And then my 'optional' experimental section as math and it was really easy and I was like, "Oh, the test was giving me hard questions because I was GOOD." And, I was.

Math: 740, Verbal: 750

Wow, they give you the scores right away? Cool!

(I'm assuminating those are on a 200-800 scale like the SATs?)

Yes, until September, when they're switching to a 130-170 scale for some reason. It was all on the computer - no bubbles! I felt old.

awesome scores! I also loved the instant gratification of the scores on the computer.

Heh. I was SO worried after I finished the verbal parts, because they were giving me freaky words, but it hadn't really connected that the hard questions only come if you get the easy questions right...

Congratulations!

I'm sure your essay is way better than most!!

Dude. Okay, I took the GRE the old-fashioned way, but I -- studied! Studied the math! And did not do that well by a longshot.

Lucky test-aptitude person.

They're recalibrated since I took it the first time, in 1993, so you may not be able to compare your scores, depending on when you took them. (Though I did better on the math in 1993 - 790! But only 690 verbal. But 800 logic! I slay people with my logic!)

I was gonna ask about the logic section because when I took it there were math, verbal, and logic. Did they get rid of it?

[identity profile] casperflea.livejournal.com 2007-04-15 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I had a 45-minute essay, with choice of two topics, giving my personal opinion on a statement; a 30-minute essay evaluating an argument; 45 minutes of quantitative and 30 minutes of verbal, then the 'experimental' quantitative. It's all on the computer, and if you finish early, you can leave!
