It's been one week...

The Dillo had another dr. appointment this morning, but he's looking good and they didn't want to test the bilirubin levels and he's back up to 8lb 6oz, gaining 40 grams a day, so we're good - no need to go in until the 1 month appt. He's definitely settled down into nursing - he is a good and efficient and speedy nurser. So funny how the milk completely knocks him out. Actually he has 4 modes right now: Chill ("awake/alert"), I Must Suck On Your Finger Now, Nursing, and Deeply Unconscious.

Casper gets upset when he cries, but he doesn't much, luckily. She asks "Is he doing okay?" all the time. Wants to touch and watch him; we supervise carefully because she has a tendency to lean on him. I've been making a point of spending a good couple of hours focussed just on her in the evenings and this helps keep things running smoothly.

Mother left this morning (as planned) with melodrama, tears and recriminations. She feels unappreciated. I knew 6 days was way too long, but that's what she made her reservations for (without consulting me, natch). I told her that I had not had more than 2 hours of sleep in a row for a week, and needed to focus my energy on caring for Casper (emotionally) and the Dillo (physically), and had no spare energy for her melodrama power play. I do not need a third baby in my house, especially one who is 56 years old and has boundary issues (i.e. not respecting mine) and decides her parting shot should be a guilt trip. Fuck dat, as Trey would say.

Your posts about the billirubin is infecting my dreams - I had a dream about having another baby (a boy) and we had to keep getting his billirubin checked.

You mentioned that Casper had jaundice, too, I think. If one baby has it, is there a good chance the second baby will?

I don't know if jaundice is genetic, though I did see stats that Asian babies are more likely to have high bilirubin levels, so there's some ethnic component. I think in us it's been how fast (or not fast) my milk comes in.

Huh. That's interesting.

Oh *god* -- mine at least does all the cooking, shopping, and cleaning cheerfully when there's a new baby involved, and doesn't sneak in the inappropriate boundary issues until near the end of the visit.

Sorry you had to deal with drama, but glad to hear the Dillo is well. Does he take the skin off yer knuckles sucking?

Trey, he was wee but wise.
