first day of work

was all meetings and paperwork and mission statements and keys. Two of my 6 coworkers got into a discussion of Mad Men at lunch, and one of them said, "My people on the internet say..." and then they both came out as Dr. Who fans, and both admitted to having "people" on the internet so I said I had some too but they were originally Buffy people and coworker A said she was surprised that nobody among her online people yet had commented on Mad Men in the context of Buffy. So that's two more fannish people than I worked with in my old job!

I am going to be really behind, though, until I sort out the lines between work and play at work. And it might be sorta good for me to reduce my time online...

In other news, Dillo is 25 months old today, and I feel very remiss in my updates lately, so let's toss one off. Physically he's clearly transitioning from baby to small boy - he's taller and slimmed and has less of a baby belly. His hair is longish and shaggy right now and kind of sun-blonded, though he's still basically a brunette. Socially he's turning into a little boy, too - very talkative, clearly thinking about stuff and generally getting it. He knows numbers up to 10 now, and shouts them out when we line things up (he's especially fond of FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT, no matter how many things are lined up) but he thinks three means two, so when he pulls my top down to look at both breasts at once he says, "three nurses!" which always gives me pause.

His sleep has settled down a lot, now that we've started the routine of school. He's often sleeping right through from bedtime (still unhappily close to 9 before he actually falls asleep) until 4am. Nice! He's still nursing a lot, at bedtime, in the night, morning, on weekends asking fairly often. He asks so nicely, though ("more nursie please mama?") that it's hard to say no!

The school seems decent, a little more informal than the old one, in that they don't send home daily info sheets on what he ate and when he pooped. The caregivers seem nice. He's warming up slowly - likes the playground and often comes home with sand in new places. Casper and I picked him up today and he shouted her name and the teacher said, "I didn't realize he could talk!" So while there's very little crying, he is still quite shy. There are officially 18 kids in the room, but in practice there seem to be 10-12 on any given day. Not sure if that's summer or what. Ages are 18 months to 3, but they seem to tend younger - Dillo is in the older half I'd guess. More girls than boys.
