neighbors

Dear Frat Boys Next Door,

We live next door to you. We appreciate your efforts so far this fall to be good neighbors: attention to noise levels at parties, keeping a clean yard, etc.

Last night was the loudest party you've had yet, but it was still manageable - the baby somehow wasn't awakened by the music that you were playing 10 feet from her bedroom windows, and I was able to sleep with earplugs.

What bothers me is the person - whether a house resident or a guest - who stepped onto the back porch at 3:30 AM and yelled "Hey neighbors, call 911! Do it!" We were certainly tempted, I can tell you, but we've never yet called the police about noise levels at the student house next door - preferring to deal directly with the students themselves. Last year's residents were a lot noisier than you are, but they gave us their cell numbers, and if a party was impossibly loud, we called and they quieted it down. They were noisy, but respectful of the fact that they were living in a residential neighborhood.

So, to sum up - taunting your neighbors, who have a small child and jobs (I and half the people on the block work at your school), after a noisy evening, at 3:30 AM on a work night - not the best way to earn the respect or patience of the neighborhood. Think about it.

Your neighbor,
flea
