better idea in the long term to stretch a bit at first to get a house you'll stay in, than to buy a "starter" house and sell it and get something else less than ten years later
Having done just this, I'm nodding emphatically. If we'd stretched a bit more when we bought our first house, we'd a) have bought in a much better market b) still be in it, with a mortgage a lot closer to being paid off.
