Casper talky stuff; New Year's Diet?
Casper has suddenly developed a tendency to stutter - she says "I I I I I I I want it!" and "I I I I need I need I need that...". Interesting. I don't know what causes typical stutters, but this seems something like she's too excited to get the words out. She's also gradually become a little lazy with pronounciation: "Graaaa Debbie" when she was pronouncing the D and the M, and mr. flea mentioned he has more trouble understading her lately. "Art work" came out as "eye gups" to me this morning, and I had to have her repeat it several times.
veejane (who has done some study of linguistics) says that her "pike" for "park" and related problems are known as a lateral lisp, and are related to the sound troubles that mean she says "sweep with me" and such. Apparently it's hard for many kids to form sounds that involve the tongue in the back of the mouth when the palate is still underdeveloped. Most kids outgrow it - an exception being Carl ("biwwions and biwwions of stars) Sagan.

An acquaintance mentioned that her family had gone on a diet simply by not buying anything that had either trans-fats or high fructose corn syrup in the ingredients. Not that I need to go on a diet, but I am always interested in eating less crap and less prepackaged food. I looked casually today at stuff in our cupboard and noticed that high fructose corn syrup is the second ingredient in Campbell's Tomato soup and it's also in Wheat Thins. Very interesting. Tomato soup is a major mr. flea comfort food and I loooove Wheat Thins, so those will be tough to give up, but I'm thinking about it.
