remembered dream about archaeology
I just remembered a dream I had a few nights ago, in which I was still an archaeologist, and was talking with a group of colleagues from my American School in Athens years. I recall saying, "Yes, I'm responsible for the Hellenistic pottery from Sepphoris, and I haven't even looked at any Hellenistic pottery in 5 years!"
It is worth (well, to me, anyway) noting that 1) I have been to Sepphoris (it is in Israel), in 1996, and in fact know one of the excavators of the (completely unrelated) Early Bronze Age site there, but am otherwise unconnected with the site and 2) when an archaeologist, I was never a pottery expert of any period, and my particular periods of interest, where I know the pottery best, were Early and Late Bronze Age Greece of the mainland and islands, NOT Hellenistic Israel. Also, 3) Sepphoris dates largely from the 3rd to 5th centuries CE, i.e. hundreds of years after the Hellenistic period (although who knows, there may be Hellenistic pottery there - it's everywhere.)
